Philae comet lander wakes up and phones home

After much speculation and seven months of silence, Philae, a robot that landed on a comet late last year, woke up this weekend and called home! This history-making space probe is on a mission to collect data on the composition of a comet.
‪#‎Didyouknow‬ that Philae is equipped with all sorts of scientific, including‪#‎nuclear‬, tools to collect elemental, molecular, isotopic, and mineralogical data to transmit back to scientists on Earth? Several of Philae’s instruments have already gathered the first direct data from a comet, which scientists are now analyzing to determine the composition of the comet’s surface.
Read more about Philae and the excitement surrounding his long awaited call in this Nature News and Comment piece.
