The Necklace Nebula (PN G054.2-03.4), about 15,000 light-years away in Sagitta, is a planetary nebula formed by two dying stars in tight orbit. The larger star engulfed its companion, spun rapidly, and ejected gas to create a glowing ring with diamond-like dense clumps. The stars orbit daily, just millions of km apart, appearing as one point. Formed ~10,000 years ago during a common envelope phase, shedding outer layers. Hubble's Wide Field Camera 3 reveals fine details of clumps and ring structure, aiding study of binary star nebulae. Image Credit: ESA/Hubble & NASA, K. Noll.
