This bright star shines in the constellation Cygnus, right at the base of the famous “Northern Cross” asterism. To the naked eye it looks like an ordinary single point of light, but the moment you point even a small telescope at it, a little miracle happens.
Instead of one star, a stunning pair of completely different colors suddenly opens up before you:
Albireo A — a bright, warm, golden-orange star, glowing like burning amber.
Albireo B — a fainter but incredibly beautiful bluish-white star, cold and sparkling like a sapphire.
The color contrast is so strong and pure that Albireo is often called one of the most beautiful double stars accessible to amateur telescopes. Many stargazers fall in love with it at first glance.
