Happy birthday Rosalind Franklin!
#Didyouknow that Franklin’s scientific contributions were essential for three other physicists to get the Nobel Prize in physics?
Born today in 1920, Rosalind Franklin was an excellent physical chemist and X-ray crystallographer who provided ground-breaking information towards the discovery of the double helix form of DNA by making X-ray diffraction photographs.
Based on these photographs and combined with additional research, James Watson, Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins were able to confirm the molecular structure of DNA that Franklin had predicted beforehand and were awarded the Nobel Prize in physics in 1962.
Even though Rosalind Franklin did not get the recognition that she deserved, her contributions will not be forgotten.
