image taken by the Cassini spacecraft 49 km from the surface of Saturn's moon Enceladus.

This unprocessed image was taken by the Cassini spacecraft over the weekend as it flew 49 km from the surface of Saturn's moon Enceladus. Enceladus is covered in a cracked and actively changing ball of ice surrounding a global sea. The southern polar region of the moon is covered in icy plumes that Cassini flew through as it took this picture. Over the next several days the craft will be sending more images and data about the plumes back to Earth. (Image credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/Space Science Institute)
