Astronomers have unveiled the most detailed Milky Way map ever, courtesy of ESA's Gaia mission. After 11 years of observations and over three trillion measurements of more than two billion stars, it offers a dynamic 3D view of stellar movements and evolution. Discoveries include hidden spiral arms, ancient fossil structures, edge filaments, and a rippling wave in the disk—rewriting galactic history. Building on early radio data and the 1989 Hipparcos mission, Gaia's final release by 2030 promises more insights. Credit: ESA / Gaia Mission
