#ThrowbackThursday: Nuclear technology powered the engines for deep space travel, which marked a milestone some 50 years ago with the first ever spacewalk. It lasted only 12 minutes but when Soviet-era cosmonaut Alexei Leonov left the confines of his spacecraft on 18 March 1965 at 08:35 GMT to be the first human being to float in the vacuum of space, the world heralded a new era in space exploration.
