Scientists report the appearance of a solar region capable of unleashing powerful magnetic storms on Earth. A massive sunspot group has emerged on the far side of the Sun; experts are already calling it one of the most dangerous seen in recent years. In terms of scale, it is being compared to Region 3664, which triggered the strongest magnetic storm in two decades earlier in 2024. The region will become visible from Earth in the coming days, and in about a week, it will be positioned directly facing our planet—the most critical location for potential impacts from solar activity. Powerful solar flares can cause disruptions to communications and navigation systems, as well as problems for power grids. At the same time, the heightened activity means residents of many countries may be able to witness auroras in areas where they do not typically occur.
