The Webb Space Telescope has photographed the object Herbig-Haro 24. This young star is ejecting two narrow jets of hot gas in opposite directions. These jets collide with the surrounding gas and dust, creating the glowing shock waves characteristic of such objects. The star is still forming within a dense dust cocoon and has not yet completed its birth. The object is located in the Orion B molecular cloud (one of the most active star-forming regions in our galaxy) at a distance of approximately 1,350 light-years from Earth. Observing such stars allows scientists to understand how stars are born and evolve in the early stages of their lives, as well as how planetary systems form around them.
