Located in the constellation Cygnus, 2,400 light-years from Earth, lies the vast Veil Nebula—or the Cygnus Loop, as amateur astronomers call it This massive cloud of gas and dust, the remnant of a supernova explosion, is slowly expanding through space. The nebula is so immense that some of its sections are considered distinct objects in their own right and bear their own names. The image shows one such section, listed in astronomical catalogs as Caldwell 33.
